He stuck his head around the doorframe and said in his best wheedling tone: "Deeeee, you know how you're my best friend in the whole world?"

"What do you want?"

"Nothing, I'm just telling you how much I love you."

"And it's very touching."

Then, of course, he gave me his essay to read.
